About Us

If you spend much time in any of the Alamance County libraries, you will notice people that always seem to be hustling around the library. If they aren’t library employees, they probably are one of the Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries. Ask them. You just might want to be one yourself.

First formed in 1967, active for ten years, disbanded until 1985, today’s Friends group is a vibrant, active partner for support of libraries, education and literacy in Alamance County. Other than our wildly popular book sales, we also provide financial support to a wide variety of library and community literacy programs.

The By-Laws of the Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries state in Article IV that our objectives are:

4.01    To increase interest in and to raise the level of library services in our community.
4.02    To foster closer relations between the staff, the citizens of the community and the function of the libraries.
4.03    To disseminate information and knowledge of the libraries’ functions, resources, services, and requirements.
4.04    To provide the means for members and non-members to exchange ideas, information and experiences.
4.05    To encourage education and literacy throughout Alamance County.

More simply put, we do what Friends are supposed to do – make your life better.
