Supporting our libraries… I hope that each of you have beautiful memories of going to the library as a child. There is a special joy in picking out that big picture book and proudly carrying it to the desk for check out. There is anticipation of getting it home and to reading it with a loved one. Then there is the lesson of returning it in a timely fashion which offers a new opportunity with a new book. We are blessed to have community libraries where we and our families can explore the remarkable world of books, and more! They have been here for many years, supported by our county and city tax dollars, contributing to our quality of living in Alamance County. Now, the libraries need our help. Tax dollars don’t stretch as far as they used to and hard choices have to be made. You can help preserve the excellent quality of services at the library in many ways… Donate gently used books and audio visual materials at any branch for the Friends of the Library book sales. Volunteer to help with the book sales. Each hour donated resulted in $23.00 for funds raised during last month’s sale. Consider a donation to the Friends of the Alamance County Public Libraries. Our mission is to support literacy efforts in the community, mostly through the libraries, but occasionally through other programs like the Children’s Museum and Christmas Cheer. These actions promote a stronger library system which sounds very serious and all mature, but in reality our goal is just the warm, cuddly experience of a good bed time story. Thank you, Lynne Taylor, President of the Friends
